Are You Suffering With No Bowel Movements?
No bowel movements simply imply constipated status. This condition is especially common among the elderly and children and can lead to serious medical issues if left untreated.
Causes of Having No Bowel Movements
Constipation is such a common condition among the elderly owing to the fact that they have little fiber in the diet, lack of exercise and vigorous body movements to help peristalsis, poor dentition, a history of laxatives abuse and poor mental conditions. Certain medical conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, thyroid disorders, Multiple Sclerosis, dementia and their treatments (drugs) are also responsible for constipation in the elderly people. When it comes to children, quick fix foods or junk food is a main reason behind constipation. Children often feed on sweets and other flavored food and drinks. They are highly unlikely to have a balanced or a fiber-rich diet and we can directly attribute causes for no bowel movements to these conditions.
What Should Be Done About Having No Bowel Movements?
In any case dietary adjustment is the main mode of treatment. In the case of chronic constipation in elderly people, doctors may prescribe laxatives and other drugs which may help. However, increased physical activity is a good alternative for them. Children should also be put on a healthy diet and encouraged to follow a regular physical exercise routine.
